It’s been a busy couple years for the guys in The Soonest. They’ve tirelessly worked on creating music that grows with every listen. The San Francisco quintet, comprised of members Young Lee (guitars/vocals), Andrew Wales (drums), Alex Stack (bass), and Mark Quitevis (guitar) started as a side project that quickly turned into a full band as they discovered their sound which has been described as rich and haunting and has been compared to bands such as The National, Bloc Party, and Arcade Fire. The members’ diverse geographical backgrounds also help bring different perspectives to the music seeing how the members come from cities such as Atlanta, Boston, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and San Jose.
The Soonest is preparing to follow up on their first EP, Quarters, with the Lions At Your Door EP. They have already captured the attention of many listeners as well publications such as CMJ, Performer Magazine, Deli Magazine, and Sonicbids and with “Lions At Your Doors”, they’re ready to showcase a new set of songs that build upon their already full sound.
The Soonest will be playing a string of San Francisco/Bay Area shows and then a West Coast tour to support the release of the EP.
Press:
“The guitars nimbly arpeggiate over a hearty rhythm section peppered with reverb and echo….the lyrics, as confessional as a diary and with enough angst to be cathartic without sounding too overblown.
No word yet on whether the rockers will come east, but don’t be surprised if they do: This big a sound can’t stay hidden forever.” - CMJ, January 2012
“Known for their energetic shows, intricate arrangements, and thoughtful songwriting, The Soonest has shown that they’re serious about their craft.” - Sonicbids Artist of the Week, February 2012
“The San Francisco rock band sound much bigger than their four-part roster might suggest. Vocals and instrumentation are rich, and the pacing of builds and lulls work refreshingly. It’s a balance that’s hard to execute.” - Performer Magazine, July 2011
“San Francisco’s, The Soonest, delivers intimate indie rock comprised of subtle, angst ridden lyrics, reverb-filled guitar lines and a thunderous rhythm section. The band is quite elusive, and its songs are mysterious and ambient.” - Deli Magazine, March 2011
